I like to think that I create classes that are just a bit special...here's how and why...

I CARE ABOUT YOU

Really...truly... I WANT you to be happy, I want you to create an artwork you love and I want you to revel in the process. I get such a buzz when I see my students becoming more confident, when they start to evolve their painting and when they are expressing their true selves.

 

I WANT YOU TO BE YOU

I don't want a class full of clones whose artworks all look like mine...I want your work to express who YOU are. Even if you are not quite sure what your personal style is, I will gently help you to coax that out. You will like what emerges over time...I promise...

 

I KNOW HOW TO READ A GROUP

Through years of both teaching and facilitating team building groups, I know that it is the people who surround me that matter...How students feel can change from day to day and it's my job to adapt and change with that energy. Whether it's putting on some upbeat Brazilian music during a rainy day or calming the energy during a busy time of year, I will help create an atmosphere most conducive to creativity...and joy..

 

I DONT WANT YOU TO BE LEFT IN THE LURCH

Anything new can seem a bit daunting when you first start out. If you are unsure about something, it's important to have guidance readily on hand. That's why I keep my groups small and keep an eye out for anyone who looks like they may be ABOUT to get a little lost. I'm usually pretty good at jumping in before I see a "help me" look!

 

I BELIEVE EVERYONE CAN PAINT / BE CREATIVE

Ok, so I don't believe anyone can be a world famous artist, but I do believe that everyone can revel in the feeling of creating something and be happy with the result...but there's a catch...you have to LET yourself...and let go of any barriers that get in the way. Whether you were told you couldn't draw, or feel you HAD to paint "perfectly," now is the time to let all that go... and I'm here to help. I assure you, when you let go of the things which have gotten in your way, you will be amazed at how much fun you can have and what you can achieve!

 

I BELIEVE ART IS LIKE LEARNING A LANGUAGE

How can you expect to communicate in a foreign country without knowing the right words? The same goes for art. It's almost impossible to express yourself creatively if you don't learn some basic art techniques. In most of my courses, there will be times when things challenge you a little (that's how you know you are learning and growing!) but I will make sure we won't get too hung up on technique that things become a chore. While you will learn a lot along the way, there will certainly be enough fun and easy things to keep you excited and inspired.

 

I HAVE WAY TOO MANY IDEAS THAN I KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH...

Stuck for an idea of what to paint, or how to resolve a painting? I am more than happy to help generate some ideas (or 10!) for you to choose from and am happy to ensure enough You-ness (it's a word now!) is injected into the work so your artwork remains YOUR creation and not mine.

 

I AM BIG ON ENJOYING THE PROCESS

People go and watch a movie for two hours, happy to just sit and have a good time, even if they have nothing tangible to "show for it."  Why not allow yourself the same (probably more) enjoyment while creating an artwork. In and of itself, creating art can be an amazing experience and will give you a sense of joy and fulfillment second to none. This mindset will allow you to revel in the process and, ironically enough also produces the best results!

I'M A PROFESSIONAL ARTIST AND TEACHER

Anyone can find things to teach, or artworks to copy from the internet these days...this can be fine up to a point but unfortunately, the scope of actually teaching in this way is very limited. Novice teachers are often stumped when a student wants to expand their creativity beyond just what is in front of them. I ran my own successful art school for adults in Sydney until 2018. I have written and taught my own courses and workshops, teaching a whole range of styles in a huge range of mediums over many years. Purely through experience and careful thought, I have developed my own teaching style which gently guides students to create their own unique art with skill and confidence.
